Installation best practice
- Subfloor preparation: the most common cause of premature commercial flooring failure. The surface must be sound, clean, flat to within ±3mm under a 3m straightedge for tile or ±1mm for SPC, and dry, with relative humidity below 75% for adhesive-applied systems.
- Moisture testing: test concrete slabs with a calibrated hygrometer before applying any moisture-sensitive flooring. New concrete needs a minimum 28-day cure, and in Chennai’s humidity, often longer.
- Expansion joints: tile floors need joints at column lines, at the perimeter and at maximum 4–6m intervals in large areas. Joints must continue through the tile and grout to the substrate.
