On cement specifications: cement standards in India have been revised and consolidated over recent years, and the correct reference depends on the type and grade specified for your project. Rather than name a number that may be superseded, check the specification in your approved documents and confirm the current applicable standard for that cement type. Ask for the manufacturer test certificate with each consignment and verify it against what was specified.
Major Inspection Stages and what to verify at each
Formwork inspection
Check before reinforcement is placed, because access disappears afterwards. Verify alignment, level and plumb against the drawings; adequacy of props, bracing and supports; joint tightness against grout loss; surface condition and release agent; and that the formwork can carry the pour without deflection. Agree the striking sequence before concreting, not after.
Reinforcement inspection
The highest-value check on most residential builds, and the last opportunity before concealment. Verify bar diameter, spacing, number and arrangement against the bar bending schedule; lap positions and lengths; cover blocks present, correct and adequately fixed; binding secure enough to survive the pour; bar cleanliness; and that openings, inserts and service sleeves are positioned. Cover is the item most often found wrong afterwards, so it deserves a deliberate look.
Concrete work inspection
Split it across three moments. Before the pour: mix approval, batching, placement plan, access and vibration equipment ready. During: workability testing at the point of placement, sampling for cubes, placement sequence, compaction, and control of any water added on site. After: finishing, curing method and duration, protection, and striking in the agreed sequence. Curing is the specified step most often abbreviated and the one with the clearest effect on strength.
Masonry inspection
Verify unit quality on delivery and wetting practice before laying; line, level and plumb; bond pattern and joint consistency; properly filled joints; provision for openings, lintels and any reinforcement; and curing. Check junctions with RCC members — separation there is a common source of later cracking.
